Statnet is a program to gather and show
information about network activity.
It is intended to give a better idea of network usage than the flashing
lights on a hub. It's not a full-featured network traffic analyzer.
The current released version is: 3.8
Version 3 is separated into a server which gathers the network data,
and clients which view the data. The server needs superuser privilege,
but viewing no longer requires it.
Statnet views the traffic statistics of ethernet/PLIP/PPP for IP, IPX
and Appletalk.
Some of the information which can be displayed is:
- number of kilobytes per second on your interfaces
- the ethernet load
- frames per second
- how many frames of each type (Ethernet,IP,SAP,TCP,UDP and some appletalk
frames)
Developed on Linux.
DIPC enabled, so server
and clients can run on different machines within a DIPC cluster.
Statnet can be downloaded from your favorite Linux site.
